Some places just get you. They suck you in. This is totally one of them for me. I find that when I have my camera with me I get sucked in even deeper, taking the extra moment to capture my photo just how I like it and how I want to remember the scene. Take a glimpse at one of the cooler places in the lovely city of Santa Barbara, the Living Old Mission Santa Barbara:
Old Mission Santa Barbara is called a living mission because Franciscan Friars still run and use it to this day. Aside from the gorgeous interior of the church, the garden area you saw is called the Sacred Garden and it was originally used as a space for Native American people to learn building trades. Another open area outside the church but inside the mission walls is the Cemetery Garden which dates back to 1789. I just love visiting places with such rich history and defined aesthetic. It brings me back to my college studies of art and culture that so I enjoyed!
If you’re in Santa Barbara, be sure to visit the Old Mission and take the tour–it’s worth it to be transported back in time.
Great pictures! I love the ones of the little cacti on the steps!
Erin, they are all so beautiful! I always look forward to your new posts! that’s funny that Nicole mentioned the cacti pic, because I was going to say the same thing! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful images–such rich colors and lighting…makes me feel like I was there with you, and I love that! Thanks for sharing :) ~Mom
Loved the pictures you took of the Mission! You’re quite an accomplished photographer. I’ve always enjoyed all the trips we’ve taken to Calif (Mom & Dad’s family close to San Fran and Los Angeles). Enjoy your time there!
love the shots what type of plant/flower are those leafy flower cactus looking things lol?
Thank you ladies :) The little plants are mostly succulents, which are a new favorite of mine.
Love Santa Barbara! So beautiful and the Old Mission is of course a wonderful place to visit even if you have seen and been there multiple times. I was just in town and I just casually walked around the grounds. SO breathtakingly beautiful, I took so many photos. The Rose Garden across the way is also a lovely place to spend the day and have a picnic or read a book. I stayed at the Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com). So affordable and the location was pristine!
Hi Adele! Glad you enjoyed the Mission photos, I am happy to have them to look back on now that my husband and I have moved to Colorado Springs. Not much beats Santa Barbara, in fact I miss it quite often! Thanks for the tip on the Sandman Inn, I’ll tuck that away for future visits :)
