Since my husband, Gary and I moved to California in December I’ve fallen more and more in love with it. We live in a beautiful region on the South Central Coast between San Francisco and Los Angeles and about an hour north of Santa Barbara: Santa Maria Valley. Over the weeks and months we’ve watched the vineyards that abound in this area progress from dormant, brown vines to beautiful leafy spring growth:There is absolutely abundant beauty here. From the rolling hills to the coastal cliffs to the rows and rows of wine-producing grape vines, my breath is taken away whenever we venture out.I’ve enjoyed capturing bits of this natural beauty as we’ve explored, and I’ve also been unable to stop myself from photographing some of the charming little establishments we’ve visited.I want to share these experiences with you over time in a new series I’ll be calling Portrait of a Place. I hope you’ll enjoy visiting these places through my lens as much as I enjoyed being there :)
